The Hastings Daily Tribune (Hastings, NE), Saturday, June 16, 1962; pg. 2 Schumms Are Wed in Hastings Mrs. Frances R. Hanson of Hastings and William J. Schumm of Blue Hill were married at St. Cecilia's Church with Monsignor M.C. Grogan officiating for the double ring ceremony. The couple's parents are Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Barber of Concordia, Kan., and Mr. and Mrs. William Schumm of Blue Hill. Miss Edna Schumm, sister of the bridegroom, who attended the bride, wore a light blue street length dress and a corsage of pink carnations. The bride was attired in a light pink street length dress and wore a corsage of yellow roses. Gilbert Schumm attended his brother as bestman. Dinner was served at the VFW Club following the ceremony. The bride, a graduate of high school in Courtland, Kan., and from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Concordia, Kan., is employed at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital. Her husband is farming. Mr. and Mrs. Schumm will make their home in Hastings. ======================== The Grand Island Independent (Grand Island, NE), Tuesday, October 8, 1996; pg. 9 William Schumm HASTINGS - William J. Schumm, 71, of Hastings died Sunday, Oct. 6, 1996, at Villa Grace in Hastings. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hastings with the Rev. David Bourek officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Visitation will be until 9 p.m. Tuesday at Brand-Wilson Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the family. Mr. Schumm was born on Sept. 29, 1925, in Lawrence to William and Adeline (Himmelberg) Schumm. He married Frances Barber on June 5, 1962. He farmed near Lawrence before moving to Hastings. He was a World War II veteran. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Eagles Club, where he was a Golden Eagle. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Jane Stanley of Hastings, Kay Rader of Lee's Summit, Mo., Lois Smidt of Grand Island and Julie Smith of Germany; two sons, Dale and Bill, both of Hastings; one stepdaughter, Kim Bromstead of Aurora, N.Y.; one stepson, Larry Hanson of Blue Hill; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Glen R. Schumm; one brother, Sylvester; and two sisters, Edna Hajny and Martha Karmazin.
