Bio

George "Jesse" Long was the son of George W (Jr.) Long and Luella Jane Dorr. George was one of three boys: George Jesse; Augustus Benton; and Charles Curtis Long. George was married to Anna Frances Eshleman on April 30, 1902 at North Platte, Nebraska. They had four children: Jessie Charles; George R; Avalon; and Catherine Long. ------ Obit was found in The "North Platte (Neb.) Telegraph-Bulletin" on Saturday, Feb. 6, 1954, on page #10 and reads as follows: "Longtine Rancher Of North Platte Died Here Today. -- George Jesse Long, 76, rancher, who lived five miles northeast of North Platte, died at a local hospital this morning after a lingering illness. He was born in 1877 in Winnegan, Mo., and came to the North Platte community 74 years ago with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Long observed their 50th wedding anniversary in 1952. Survivors include: his wife, Anna Frances Long; two sons, Charles and George Long of North Platte; two daughters, Mrs. Catherine Frisbie of North Platte, and Mrs. Avalon Ostendorf of Gothenburg; a brother, C.C. Long of North Platte; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Adams and Swanson chapel. The Rev. E.E. Jackman, pastor of the First Methodist Church, and Rev. E. Phil Dubbs, pastor of the First Christian Church will officiate. Burial will be in the North Platte cemetery. ----- 50th Anniversity was located in The "North Platte (Neb.) Telegraph-Bulletin" on May 1, 1952 on page #3 and reads as follows: "About one hundred friends and relativies of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Long called at their ranch home, Wednesday afternoon, to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. Among those present were Curt C. Long, Mrs. Florence Simants, Walter Eshleman and William H. Eshleman, who also attended the wedding ceremony 50 years ago. Centering the serving table was a three-tiered golden anniversary cake. Mr. and Mrs. Long cut the cake and it was served by Mrs. Walter Eshleman, Assisting in pouring were Mrs. Curt C. Long, Mrs. Elizabeth Kenworthy and Mrs. Eshelman. Mrs. Garfield Gutherless was in charge of the guest book. Mr. Long moved to this community in 1880, at the age of two, with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Long, from Colorado. Mrs. Long, the former Anna Eshleman moved here from Pennsylvania with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Eshleman in 1884. They were married, April 30th, 1902, at the home of her parents by Bishop George Beecher of the Episcopal Church. They made their first home on a homestead seven miles northeast of North Platte, where they lived for 10 years before moving to their present home. They are the parents of four children, Mrs. H. M. Frisbie, J. Charles Long, George R. Long, and Mrs. Avalon Ostendorf.
