Bio
W. H. Newton Lewis was best known to his friends and family as "Newt". He was the son of Jacob T. and Barbara Caroline (Pegram) Lewis and the husband of Mary Ellen (Elliott) Lewis whom he married on 2 December 1900 in Eastland Co., TX. Jacob arrived in Eastland Co., TX about 1883 with his parents who had moved from North Carolina and settled in the Latham Springs area of Eastland County. Newt Lewis became a farmer and moved to the city of Eastland later in life. He and Ellen had ten children, eight that lived to adulthood. Their sons were: W. Earle, Robert M., Herbert S., Clarence C. and W. Vernon Lewis. Two daughters, Ola Mae and Nannie K. died as children. Their other daughters were: Myrtle F. (married H.E. Van Geem, Sr.), Mary Louise (married J.C. Stansell) and Lenora Grace (married W.A. McIntire) Lewis. Newt Lewis' parents are buried in the Owen-Lewis Private Cemetery located about 5 miles N.E. of the city of Eastland, TX.
