Bio

John Lewis married Miss Elizabeth Sheridan on 26 September 1900 at Cisco, Texas. The couple moved to Young County in 1910 to the Tonk Valley Community. In 1912, they moved to the Proffitt Community. She preceded him in death. Services for John Oscar Lewis, 77, were held in the Proffitt Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Van Morrison of Lake Worth. Mr. Lewis moved to Texas with his parents in 1882 and settled at Eastland, Texas. He received his schooling in the Eastland schools. He became a member of the Proffitt Methodist Church in 1918 Survived by five sons - J.T. Lewis, Joe L. Lewis, Dan Lewis, Weldon B. Lewis, Winford G. Lewis; three daughters - Ora Gilmore, Gertrude Farabee, Mrs. Wayne Self; one brother - W.N. Lewis; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
