Ponder, 67-year-old resident of Commerce, died at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday in a Greenville nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the W.Y. Goff Chapel here. The Rev. Julius Stagner will officiate. Burial will be at the Riley Springs Community. Mr. Ponder, a retired farmer who resided at 1200 Sycamore St. in Commerce, was born March 8, 1900, in Riley Springs, the son of Frank Ponder and his wife, the former Nobia Whatley. On Feb. 29, 1919, (sic) Mr. Ponder was married to the former Lola McClain of Hopkins County. He had been a member of the First Christian Church since childhood. He moved to Commerce eight years ago from the Fairlie community. Mr. Ponder is survived by his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Truetta Webb and Mrs. Dimple Rex, both of Houston; two sons, Dewitt of Modesto, Calif., and Kenneth of Hopkinsville, Ky.; one sister, Mrs. Eula Starrepp of Sulphur Springs; four brothers, Robert of Commerce, Fred of Sulphur Springs, Percy of Como, and Duvall of Riley Springs; eleven grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Toy Venson, Clyde Bryant, A. E. McFarland, Royce Phillips, and Woodrow Pemberton.
