SD - Rapid City Daily Journal 3 Nov 1981 ALICE GAVETTE: formerly of Rapid City; 74, died Monday at a daughter's home in Hurst, IL, after a lengthy illness. She was born 8 Dec 1906 in Rapid City, a daughter of John and Laura Simons. She graduated from Rapid City High School in 1924 and married David M. Murphy 27 Dec 1926 in Rapid City. They ranched in Red Owl until moving to a ranch in Rapid Valley in 1936. Murphy died in 1962. She married Foster G. Gavette on 24 Apr 1971. He died Feb 1980. Mrs. Gavette worked at the Rapid City Livestock Exchange and the West River Electric Association and was a member of the Rapid Valley United Methodist Church. Survivors include a son David L. Murphy, Rapid City; a daughter Joan Stevens, Hurst; a brother: Thomas Simons, Rapid City; 2 sisters: Bea Burnette, Belle Fourche; Wealtha Forkner, Lady Lake FL; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother. Service will be Thursday afternoon at Behrens Mortuary with Rev. Robert McBride officiating. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
