SD - Black Hills Press 29 Nov 1986 (pg 4) (BBC-pg 6) THOMAS I SIMONS: Rapid City; 68, died November 26th at his home. Thomas Simons was born at Red Owl 17 Oct 1918 to John and Laura Simons. He moved from Red Owl to Elm Springs and attended school at Elm Springs. Later he worked on his uncle's ranch at Enning and married Dorothy Nuzum at Sundance WY 3 Jul 1941. The couple lived in Rapid City a short time and later moved to Vancouver WA where he worked in a defense plant. He returned to Rapid City in the late '40s and worked for an auto dealer. From 1951-61 they owned Howes Store. In 1961 they moved to Rapid City and have made their home there since. He worked for Godfrey Brake Service in Rapid City for many years. Survivors include his widow Dorothy, Rapid City; a daughter: Nancy Freeman, Rapid City; 2 sister: Wealtha Forkner, Lady Lake FL and Bea Burnette, Belle Fourche; 2 grandchildren: Gail and Rob Freeman and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister. Services were held November 28 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jack Whetzel officiating. Burial was in Bear Butte Cemetery under direction of Kinkade Funeral Chapel.
