SD - Rapid City Daily Journal 14 Feb 1980 (MTV-pg 6) FOSTER GAVETTE: Rapid City; 73, died Wednesday at a Rapid City hospital. He was born 3 Mar 1906 at Belle Ayre NY. Gavette had farmed in eastern South Dakota. He was retired. He married Alice Murphy 24 Apr 1971 in Rapid City. Survivors include his wife Alice, Rapid City; 4 children: Norman, El Paso TX; Brian, Ft Collins CO; Terry, Sioux Falls and Shirley Jansen, Chadron NE; 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Service will be Saturday afternoon at Behrens Mortuary, Rev. Robert McBride will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. After the death of his parents in New York state when Foster was a youngster, he was sent to Spink county, South Dakota where he lived with various relatives. It was here that he grew to adulthood, marrying Geraldine Delia Busch in Doland, Spink county on Jan 19, 1934. After moving his family to New York state and returning to South Dakota, Foster married second to Alice Beaulah (nee Simmons) Murphy, April 24, 1971, at Pennington county, SD.
