SD - Sturgis Tribune 28 Jul 1974 LAURA SIMONS: Rapid City; 85, died Saturday at a Rapid City retirement home. Mrs. Simons was born in TN 1 August 1888. Her family came to South Dakota, settling in the Boneita Springs area. She moved to Sturgis in 1944 and came to Rapid City in 1945. Survivors include a son Tom Simons, Rapid City; 3 daughters: Mrs. Robert (Wealtha) Forkner and Mrs. Foster (Alice) Gavette, both Rapid City and Mrs. Jefferson (Beatrice) Burnette, Belle Fourche; 7 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Her husband John preceded her in 1945. A memorial has been established to diabetic research. Services for Laura Simons will be Monday at FO Jolley Funeral Home in Sturgis with the Rev. John Jacoway officiating. Burial will be in Bear Butte Cemetery under direction of Behrens Mortuary, Rapid City.
