Bio

Lillian Jezek Cassidy, aged 97, was born in Abbott, Texas on March 29, 1917 to Czech immigrants Emilie and Anton Jezek. She was the youngest of their 14 children and grew up on a cotton farm. She was also the last surviving member of her generation. During World War II, Lillian served as an airplane mechanic-one of many "Rosie the Riveters." After the war, she worked as a secretary and eventually joined the Federal Housing Administration, where after many years, she was promoted to construction analyst. Lillian retired from the FHA in 1982 after 28 years of service. In 1949, Lillian married Donald F. Cassidy and subsequently gave birth to daughter Marguerite and twin sons James and John. After Mr. Cassidy died in 1963, Lillian raised their three children alone and stretched her budget to send them to private schools. She always emphasized the value of a good education for her children, and they are now successful professionals in the high-tech industry. Lillian was a talented gardener and artistic crafter who created festive cakes, holiday wreaths, and other decorative items. She loved to read and stayed well informed on many topics, especially current events. Lillian also enjoyed classical music, traveling, dining out, movies, pet sitting, shopping with her daughter, and visiting with her numerous brothers, sisters, and friends. Most of all, she enjoyed people. Lillian never met a stranger-she was welcoming to all--and was greatly loved for her kindness, compassion, integrity, generosity, quick wit, and loyalty. Lillian was a devoted mother, a caring sibling, and a treasured friend to many. A devout Catholic, she was a member of St. Patrick's congregation for many years. She spent her final decade as a member of the Divine Mercy congregation at The Waterford in Mesquite, where she was valued and admired for her cheerfulness, friendliness, and wonderful sense of humor. Lillian was predeceased by her parents, seven sisters, six brothers, and husband. She is survived by her daughter, Marguerite "Margy" Cassidy and her husband, Daniel Blanks, son James "Jim" Cassidy, and son John Cassidy and his wife, Janet, who miss her beyond words and will cherish her memory for the rest of their lives. Other survivors include her beloved cat, Katy, and numerous cousins and family friends. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Calvary Hill Funeral Home Chapel from 4:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery.
