RAYMOND J. MAZANEC Raymond James Mazanec, 95, of Hays, died Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Hays Medical Center. He was born April 24, 1917 in Brainard, Nebraska to Adolf and Hattie (Kobza) Mazanec. He graduated from Colby High School in 1939. He married Josephine Horinek on May 1, 1945. He was a mechanic for the State of Kansas Highway Department. He served in the 7th Air Force from 1942 - 1945 serving during WWII. He was a member of VFW and American Legion both of Hays, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus St. Joseph Council #1325 and the Sunflower Polka Club. He Is survived by his wife, Josephine of Hays; three daughters, Caroline Hilmes of WaKeeney, Antonetta "Tony Jo" Lang of Hays and Ramona Young and husband Bruce of Lakewood, CO; a brother, Albin Mazanec of Colby; two sisters, Helen Horinek of Colby and Sister Rita Ann Mazanec of Concordia. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Bill (Elizabeth) Hilmes, Joey Lang, Dianna (Kirk) Ficken, Matthew (Amanda) Young and Stephanie Young; seven great grandchildren, Josh, Bryce and Calvin Ficken, Gage Hilmes, Kaylee, Leah and Hayden Young. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Mazanec; two sisters, Mary Mazanec and Celestine Seivcrt and two son-in-laws, Francis Lang and Larry Hilmes. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 23, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays. Burial with military honors will be at 4:00 PM Monday at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Atwood. Visitation will be Sunday 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM and Monday 9:00 AM - 9:30 AM all at Brock's North Hill Chapel 2509 Vine Hays, KS. 67601. service at 6:30 Memorials are suggested towards the donor's choice and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
