'''''''''''''' Butler County Press (David City, Nebr.), May 14, 1953, p. 1, col. 7 BUTLER COUNTY PIONEER PASSES ON… Bruno, May 13 – Funeral services for Mrs. Frances Novacek, 86, were held May 6 from St. Anthony's church at nine a.m. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. F. J. Kopecky offered the requiem High Mass, and conducted the burial rites in St. Anthony's cemetery, where she was laid to rest in the family plot. The pallbearers, grandsons of the deceased, were Frank and John Rerucha, Victor and Leonard Novacek, Joseph Novacek, and Arthur Novacek. Mrs. Novacek had been in failing health for several years due to the infirmities of old age and a heart condition. The last two weeks of her life was spent at the home of her son, Vincent and Mrs. Novacek, where she quietly passed away at 4:15 p.m. on Sunday, May 3. Frances, daughter of Vaclav and Frances Kobza, was born in Zarubic, Moravia, in September, 1866. When she was twelve years old, her parents emigrated to the United States in 1878. Her marriage to Joseph Novacek was solemnized in Sts. Peter and Paul church at Abie in 1884. Three sons and six daughters were born to them. The Novacek family farmed near Linwood in their early years, later moving to a farm near Bruno. In May 1927, Mr. and Mrs. Novacek retired from farm life and moved to Bruno. Mr. Novacek passed away on April 27, 1930. One son, Joseph, and four daughters also preceded the parents in death. The surviving children are Frank and Vincent, and Mrs. Agnes Rerucha of Bruno, and Mrs. Joseph Vrana of Prague. Three brothers and one sister also survive. They are Fred Kobza of Schuyler; Charles Kobza of Dwight, James Kobza and Mrs. Vaclav Wittera of Bruno. As long as it was possible for her, Mrs. Novacek kept house for herself, making garden, enjoying her flowers, and was a daily communicant at Mass. A devout Catholic, her daily devotions to the very end of her life were saying the Rosary over and over, and reading the Lives of the Saints. She retained her mental faculties to the last. She was a member of St. Anthony's Rosary Society for 50 years, and when the local chapter of the Czech Catholic Union was organized in the parish at the turn of the century, she became a member. The Rosary Society attended the funeral in an honorary body. Among those who came from a distance to pay their last respects to the deceased were Mrs. Anna Masek, Harry and Leonard Masek, and Mr. and Mrs. James Kobza, all of Valparaiso; Frank Svoboda of Malcolm; Joseph Kobza of Ulysses; Mrs. Fred Kobza and Mr. and Mrs. James Svoboda of Schuyler; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Nozicka, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Rerucha, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Novacek, all of Bellwood; and Mr. and Mrs. Milo Novacek of Rogers.
