Bio

Lawrenceville Republican Aug.14,1902 Pg.5 : "Uncle John Stevenson suddenly fell dead of heart failure, Saturday evening, at his father-in-law, Uncle Felix Wampler" ∼ Lawrence County IL News Thu, 14 Aug 1902 "Sudden Death of John Stevenson The sad news reached Lawrenceville Saturday night that John Stevenson, one of Bond township's best citizens, died very suddenly that afternoon about five o'clock at the home of his father-in-law, Uncle Felix Wampler. Uncle Felix had invited all his children, grandchildren, great-grandchilden to his home that afternoon for a watermelon cutting. Among them were Mr. Stephenson and family. A jolly time had been had and the folks were all getting ready to return to their homes. Mr. Stevenson stopped to tighten a nut on his buggy and fell over and died almost instantly. He had been in good health except slight rheumatism, and that had bothered him very little recently. Heart failure, perhaps caused from rheumatism, was the cause of his death. Coroner Lewis was out of the county and Dr. H. V. Lewis and Squire Walton held the inquest, the jury returning a verdict of heart failure. The deceased was 58 years, 11 months, and 20 days old and had been a resident of his county nearly all his life. He was honest, industrious, and a model husband and father and had a host of friends who mourn with the family in his sudden taking away. He leaves a wife, eleven children and a host of other relatives. Funeral services were held at St Paul church, of which the deceased was a member, Sunday afternoon and interment was made in the St. Paul cemetery."
