SD - Sturgis Weekly Record 11 Jan 1934 WILLIAM RICHARD SIMONS: died at his White Owl ranch on January 3. A few weeks ago he suffered a paralytic stroke, after which complications set in causing his death. Mr. Simons was born 20 December 1865 at Ellenboro WI. At the age of 14 years, he moved with his parents to NE. On 15 January 1888 he was married to Lettie Butcher. To this union were born 8 children: Gertrude, Elmer, Archie, Guy, Violet, Sam, Jimmy and Ida. He moved with his family to his ranch at White Owl in 1895, where he lived until the time of his death. He leaves to mourn his wife and 8 children; 29 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; 3 brothers and 6 sisters, all of whom he dearly loved. Billie was one of the oldest and best known pioneers in White Owl and surrounding country and his affectionate nature made him one of the best loved men in the community. His passing will long be mourned by his family, other relatives, many friends and neighbors. Services were held {no date} in the White Owl Church, with Rev. W.E. Bishop officiating. {funeral details listed} At the grave, Rev. Fr Doyle, Marcus officiated at a short and impressive Catholic ceremony as a tribute to Billy. {Interment at White Owl Cemetery}
