SD - Black Hills Press 13 Mar 1956 BETSY KING – Mrs. Jess: passed away Friday in a Sturgis Hospital, following a long period of ill health from a heart condition. Betsy Lucinda King was born 7 October 1873 at Lancaster WI and as a child moved with her parents to NE and later to WY, coming to SD in 1888 settling at White Owl. She married Jess King at Rapid City 31 Mar 1899 and has lived in Meade County and Sturgis since. With her husband, she recently moved from Sturgis to Plainview. Besides her husband, she is survived by 2 daughters: Mrs. Madeline McDonald, Lead; and Anna, living in ID; 4 sons: Franklin, Huntington Park CA; Louie and Elmer, Plainview; Walter Ross, WY; 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; 2 brothers: Grant and Gary Simons, White Owl and 1 sister: Mrs. William Calloway, Lancaster WI. During the past 2 years, 2 of her sisters preceded her in death. Services were held Monday from FO Jolley Funeral Home with Rev. Bernard Habel officiating {funeral details listed} Pallbearers were: Charles Nuzum, Henry McKay, Jack Doran, Henry Rapp, Robert Smiley and Francis Hukill. The esteem in which Mrs. King was held was attested by the large crowd attending the rites, despite the stormy weather and poor highway condition. A loyal wife and mother and good friend she will be missed by all. She lived her religion in her daily life. Interment was in Bear Butte Cemetery.
