Bio

Black Hills 24 Jan 1904 JAMES SIMONS: aged 27 years, died in Sturgis 22 Jan 1904 (Friday) of empyema. Deceased resided near White Owl, but has been ill for several months. Sometime ago he and his wife were in Rapid City at the home of Nelson Fish, where he was sick for several weeks. From there he went to Boulder, CO and spent some time at the sanitarium there. He improved considerably and returned quite hopeful. It seems however, that death had marked him for his own and last Friday the end came while he was in Sturgis being treated. He leaves a wife and one 3 year old child. The remains were brought down from Sturgis last evening accompanied by several relatives who had driven in from White Owl. H.C. Ostendorf, a brother of Mrs. Simons is here from Smithville and their friends have come to show their respect and regard for him who has been called away from suffering and pain. The funeral will be held this afternoon at the Congregational Church, Rev. S. G. Butcher officiating. The pall bearers are asked to meet at Henry Behrens undertaking rooms at 1:45 pm.
