Bio

W. J. KING DEAD William John King, a highly respected citizen of Red Oak and vicinity, died Wednesday morning at 9:10 o'clock, at his home, 1311 North Sixth Street from cancer of the stomach. He had been in poor health for the past year but his last sickness lasted three weeks. Deceased was born in York County, Pennsylvania on April 25, 1851 and when a small boy moved with his parents to Illinois. He came to Montgomery County in 1871, and located in West Township, where he followed the occupation of farming. He was married at Red Oak, October 22, 1878 to Miss Alice Harbaugh, who, with the following children survive. Mrs. Alma Whipple, Red Oak; Clifford, Frank, and Stanley, of West Township, and Miss Elsie at home. One son died in infancy. There are also eight grandchildren and three brothers, J. H. and W. W. of Garfield, Washington, and E. F. King of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and three sisters, Mrs. S. M. Carr of Seattle, Washington; Mrs. S. A. Shields, Red Oak; and Mrs. Ida Hayes of San Jose, California. Mr. King retired from the farm in 1920 and moved to Red Oak where he had since resided. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Methodist Church of which deceased was a member. Rev. L. L. Weis will conduct the services and interment will be in Salem Cemetery. Friends who will serve as honorary pall bearers include George Glandon, Chas. Hush, John Hunter, Peter Heuer, Ed Andrson, and Jacob Rost. The active pall bearers are Horace Ewing, Thos. Ray, Geo. Bishop, Frank Norris, Otto Brodd, and Cal Denlinger. Singing will be by a quartet composed of Miss Lucy Askey, Geo Dillon, Mrs. Clarence Stephenson, and M. O. Allen with Mrs. A. J. Stickler as accompanist. Relatives who are here from a distance to attend the funeral are Mr. and Mrs. E. F. King of Colorado Springs, and Rollins King of Corning.
