Enlisted on May 17, 1864 as a Private in the 184th Pennsylvania Infantry, Company G. He was born in York County, Pennsylvania, the son of Wesley B. & Sarah Jane (Oldham) King. His siblings were Adriana, William John, James Henry, Anna Margaret, Harriet Elizabeth, Wesley Wilbur, Ellwood Franklin, Sarah Catherine, and Ida Mary. In 1860, he was a farmer living in Lower Chanceford Township, York County, and stood 5' 4" tall with brown hair and gray eyes. He never married. He enlisted in Harrisburg March 31, 1864, and mustered into federal service there May 17, 1864, as a private with Co. G, 184th Pennsylvania Infantry. He is listed on the roster as "absent at muster-out." In fact, he had been hospitalized for typhoid fever July 9, 1865, at Alexandria, Virginia, and died there. In addition to the death date shown here, his pension records also report July 30 and August 18, 1865, as dates of death. In 1865, his family moved to Monmouth, Warren County, Illinois, and then on to Montgomery County, Iowa.
