SARAH J. KING The death of Mrs. Sarah J, King, occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Steve Shields, in the north part of this city, Monday, January 3, after an illness of about three weeks. The funeral will occur Thursday, p.m. at 2 o'clock, short services being he'd at the home and the remains then taken to the Salem Church where services were conducted by Rev. Thompson of Evangelical Church of Red Oak and interment made in the Salem Cemetery. Mrs. King, whose maiden name was Sarah Jane Oldham, was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, March 13, 1824 and in 1846, on March 12, she was united to Wesley Benjamin King in marriage. In 1871, Mr. and Mrs. King and their family came from Monmouth, Illinois, where they had lived for about 6 years, to Montgomery County, Iowa, located upon a farm in West Township. Mr. King died in June 1892, and since that time Mrs. King has continued to make her home on the fam except during the winters, when she had been with her daughter in this city. Mrs. King was a devout Christian woman, always striving to do her duty to her neighbors and friends, her untiring thoughtfulness and anxiety to be of usefulness, taking her often to the aid of the sick and distressed, was a faithful and loving mother. She was the mother of then children, seven of whom survive her as follows; William J. of West Township, James H. of Corning, and Mrs. Maggie Carr, of Seattle, W. W. of Garfield, Washington, E. F. of Garfield Township, Mrs. Ida Hayes of Omaha, and Sarah Shields of Red Oak. There area host of friends who respected the lady during her life and who will share the grief of the stricken family in her death. Short services were held at the home on Thursday, January 6, 1910, at noon, and the remains were taken to the Salem Church, where funeral services were held by Rev. G. N. Thompson. Mrs. King was in her 86th years. She was born in Pennsylvania, March 13, 1824. She is survived by seven children, William John King of West township, James Henry King of Corning, Mrs. Ann Margaret Carr of Seattle, Washington, Wesley William King of Garfield, Washington, Ellwood Franklin King of Garfield township, Mrs. Ida Mary Amanda Hayes of Omaha, and Mrs. Sarah Catherine Shields of Red Oak.
