Margaret was the 6th of the 10 known surviving children of William Jernigan II and Lucy Tarver. Margaret marries James Barry 2 Jan 1842 in Robertson County TN. He was 10 years older and presumably a widower, as he already had a daughter Olive Jane born Kentucky. [Note: Two Jernigan sisters married two Barry brothers. Malinda Jernigan married William Turner Barry 1841.] Margaret has at least 9 children over the 17 years of their marriage until she dies age 44. She dies the same year her last child, Sterling Brown, is born. She is listed on the 1860 mortality schedule as a married female, duration of illness 11 days, cause of death "unknown." James dies a few years later and their minor children are under the guardianship of T. V. Barry (the oldest sibling). Margaret's 9 children are among the heirs-at-law named in an uncle's probate filings when Margaret's older brother, William T Jernigan III, dies 1878 intestate and having no wife or children of his own.
