Bio

Philip was a successful farmer, the son of Samuel Duncan Wells and Matilda (Brunk)Wells. Philip left Iowa sailing from New York on the steamer Morris Taylor and Golden Age. He followed mining in Nevada CO until 1863 then farming in Sutter Co, until Nov 1883 where he purchased 311 acres of land Between Pacheco and Martinez. He married Margaret Melissa Clark and they had six children: Jasper, Eva, Lillie, Myrtle, Ernest and Samuel. Philip died in Napa Co at Crystal Springs visiting there for four weeks hoping to cure his illness. He died of a cancerous tumor in the stomach at the age of 52 yrs.
