Funeral services for Alfred John Kettler, 94 years, of Richmond, TX, will be held at 5:00 PM Friday, June 24, 2011, at St. John's United Church of Christ, 1513 West St., Rosenberg, TX 77471, with The Rev. Dr. Dale Staggemeier officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Rosenberg, TX. Visitation will be held from 5 - 8:00 PM Thursday, June 23, 2011, at Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors Chapel, 1201 Fourth Street, Rosenberg, TX 77471. Mr. Kettler was born May 22, 1917 in Guy, Texas. He went to be with our Lord and Savior on June 21, 2011. He was baptized at Immanuel Evangelical Church, Needville, Tx., June 24, 1917 and confirmed on May 15, 1932 at Friedens Evangelical Church, Beasley, Tx. Mr. Kettler was married to Elizabeth (Brinkmeyer) Kettler on July 25, 1937; they spent 63 loving years together upon her death January 2001. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Brinkmeyer Kettler; parents, Henry Hermann Kettler and Emma Miller Kettler; one sister, Edna Rose; two brothers, Lonnie Kettler and Roy Kettler; one grandson, Andrew Nelson Niemeyer; father and mother-in-law William and Mathilda Brinkmeyer; brother-in-laws, Bennie Enax, Joseph Brinkmeyer, Walter Brinkmeyer, and Wilmund Brinkmeyer; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Mae Kettler. He is survived by twin daughters, Shirley Niemeyer and husband, Leo, and Gloria Himly and husband, Walter; grandchildren, Carlton Niemeyer and wife, Gay, Bruce Niemeyer and wife, Lorraine, Michele Wilbeck and husband, Robert, Denise Eastwood and husband, Jimmy, Darrell Himly and wife, Gayle, Cheryl Ann Schulte and husband, Greg; great-grandchildren, Rebecca Schulte, Alyssa Schulte, Connor Himly, Lauren McKinnis, Megan Wilbeck, Ashley Wilbeck, and Kammi Eastwood. He is also survived by sisters, Emma Lee Marek and husband, Ed, Ella Mae Hodges and husband, Cecil, Hilda Faye Sabrsula; sister-in-laws, Georgia Kettler, Hilda Brinkmeyer and Aleene Brinkmeyer; and numerous nieces and nephews. The pallbearers are his grandsons, Carlton Niemeyer, Bruce Niemeyer, Darrell Himly, Robert Wilbeck, Greg Schulte, Jimmy Eastwood and nephews, Darwin Enax and Alan Brinkmeyer, Dalton Kettler. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters Denise Eastwood, Cheryl Schulte and Michele Wilbeck, Lorraine Niemeyer, Gay Niemeyer and Gayle Himly. Mr. Kettler farmed until he went to work for Freeport Sulphur Co., in 1943. He also worked for Michigan Fruit Canner and for Imperial Sugar Co. until he retired. He was spotter for the US ARMY during WWII. Memorial gifts may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ, 1513 West St., Rosenberg, TX 77471. Special thanks to the staff of Cambridge Health and Rehabilitation Center for the 7 wonderful years he spent there, Dr. Conrado Ordonez, Dr. William Velasquez and Dr. Matthew McMenemy, for the care they provided.
