Bio
NEWPORT NEWS - Oscar Lewis Wallace, 97, entered into rest on Saturday Nov. 22, 2003. He was born in Marietta, Ga. and was a Newport News resident since 1953. He retired in 2000 from Waterfront Lumber Co. after 31 years of service. He was also formerly the Manager of the Millwork Plant for Weaver Brothers from 1953 to 1969. He was a member of Denbigh Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Orr Wallace; a daughter Sandra Benvie, and a grandson, Kelly Wallace. He is survived by two sons, Oscar L. Wallace Jr. of Medway, Mass., and John S. Wallace Sr. of Powhatan Va.; three sisters, Ida Sue Jarvis of Newport News, Lilly Graden of Marietta, Ga., and Bonnie Wallace of Marietta, Ga; two brothers, Oliver K. Wallace of Mayberry, Ala. and Richard Wallace of Cleveland, Ga.; as well as three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 25, 2003 in Denbigh Presbyterian Church. Interment in Cresthill Cemetery in Marietta, Ga. will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Denbigh Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
