Find A Grave Contributor Michelle Setlik, #48601942 submitted the following: Esther Swanson Obituary - Grand Island Independent June 22, 1992 ST. PAUL – Esther M. Swanson, 68, died Sunday, June 21 at the Howard County Hospital in St. Paul. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul with the Rev. James Murphy officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery at Wolbach. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice. Mrs. Swanson was born July 27, 1923, on a family farm near Cushing to Jens and Bertha (Cassel) Nielsen Sr. She was educated at a rural school near Cushing. She was employed in domestic housework before her marriage. On Oct. 12, 1940, she married Fred Swanson at St. Paul. The couple first made their home in the Wolbach area. In 1949, they moved to Michigan, and then they returned to Wolbach in 1967, where they operated a new and used furniture business. Mrs. Swanson also was involved in domestic home cleaning and home decorating, which included wallpapering and painting. Mr. Swanson died in September 1983. Mrs. Swanson then moved to St. Paul where she continued to do housekeeping and home decorating. She also was involved in child care. Mrs. Swanson was baptized in the Lutheran faith. Survivors include three sons, Harold and Ronald, both of St. Paul, and Bill of Grand Island; a daughter, Mrs. Lyle (Linda) Rasmussen of Ord; five sisters, Mrs. Martha Bahensky of Palmer, Mrs. Edna Gay of St. Paul, Mrs. Art (Elsie) Wondercheck of Belgrade, Mrs. Elnora Cook of Cassville, Mo., and Mrs. Al (Evelyn) Leeper of Ogallala; four brothers, Carl of Wolbach, Bert of St Paul, Jens Jr. of Bella Vista, Ark, and Paul of Oswego, Ill; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Kenneth; a daughter, Lana; and three infant brothers and sisters.
