Funeral services for the late Alfred Bell Stephens, for 37 years a local resident, who died on Saturday morning, were held this afternoon from the Folsom chapel with Rev. A. G. Pearson of the Presbyterian church officiating. Members of the Masonic lodge of Umatilla had charge of the services. Loren Davidson sang two solos. Mr. Stephens was born in Indiana (Harrison Co.) November 20, 1839. He was the last surviving member of Kit Carson Post, G.A.R. The late Mrs. Stephens (Mary Jane Plummer), to whom he was married September 1, 1864, died October 28, 1931. Mr. Stephens is survived by the following children: Mrs. J. C. Donelson of Mason City, Nebraska; Mrs. Frank Robinson of Portland, Mrs. H. J. Newcomb, Omar and Hiram Stephens of Pendleton; Mrs. A. D. Smith of Yakima; A. B. Stephens, Jr. and Jeff Stephens of Umatilla and Thad Stephens of Arlington. Children no longer living were Mrs. Mary Stewart, Mrs. Josephine McCully and Caleb Stephens. There are 22 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and nine great, great grandchildren, the total living descendants of Mr. Stephens numbering 80. The family, previous to Mr. Stephens death had five living generation in three branches of the family. Among the many relatives here for the funeral were A. E. Smith and Mrs. Winnie Lincoln of Yakima, grandchildren of Mr. Stephens and Harry Lee Kissinger of Pilot Rock, great grandson of Mr. Stephens.
