THAD STEPHENS DIES - Thaddeus A. (Thad) Stephens, 63, resident here since 1894, died here yesterday of heart disease. He was born in North Precinct, Seward county, Nebraska, and was the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. A. B. Stephens. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Flora Stephens, and two sons, H. A. Stephens of Pendleton and O. O. Stephens, of Astoria: three sisters, Mrs. R.C. Donaldson (Note: s/b J. C. Donelson, Broken Bow, NE - Myrna Rourke Tuning), Mrs. Jennie Smith and Mrs. Hanna Robinson, of Portland, and four brothers, A. B. Stephens of Umatilla; H. I. Stephens of Pilot Rock; J. A. Stephens of Portland and O. O. Stephens of Pendleton. There are six grandchildren, Zella and Thaddeus Stephens of Pendleton and Geraldine, Bettie, Omer Jr., and Donald Stephens of Astoria. The funeral will be held Monday, 2 p.m. from the Folsom chapel with the Rev. S. E. Anderson pastor of the Baptist church, officiating. Mr. Stephens had been in apparent good health and his sudden death came as a shock to his many friends. (Evening East Oregonian, Pendleton, Umatilla Co., OR, 14 Mar 1942, pg 5)
