Rites For T.H. Gilchrest Held March 5 Rites for T.H. Gilchrest, 72, longtime resident of Hall County who died Sunday evening in University Hospital at Lubbock, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, in Travis Baptist Church here. The Rev. Ed Abbott, pastor of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Amarillo, and Rev. J.R. Wooters of Hedley officiated. Burial was in Fairview Cemetry under the direction of Spicer Funeral home. Mr. Gilchrest was a retired heavy equipment operator. Theodore Howard Gilchrest was born in Gonzales County, Tex., Jan. 1, 1902. He married Sybel Mae Wood in 1919 [sic] at Alvarado. The family moved to Hall County in 1929 and had lived in Hedley since 1955. Mrs. Gilchrest died in November 1973. Mr. Gilchrest was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Mavis Freeman and Mrs. Betty Casteel both of Lubbock; five sons, Howard of El Paso, Clifford of Memphis, Kenneth Ernest, and Carroll all of Pasadena, Tex.; a sister, Mrs. Ada Pearl Warren of California; 22 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Pall Bearers were: Hershel Gilchrest, Thomas Gilchrest, Jr., Earl Gilchrest, Hubert Gilchrest, Vernon Woodall, and Jimmy Woodall. Honorary pall bearers were James Waddill, Herman Bell Jr., Floyd Edwards, Henry Nivens, Woodrow Farris, and Dr O.E. Goodall.
