Gilchrest Rites Scheduled Today Local funeral for Floyd C. Gilchrest, 50, of 4050 Grape St. was to be held at 3 p.m. Monday in Elliott's Chapel of Memories with the Rev. W.S. Armstrong officiating. Final rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Memphis, Tex., from the Spicer Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Memphis. Mr. Gilchrest married Ruby Jones in Memphis in 1927. They moved to Abilene in 1940 from there. He was employed by the Hardin-Simmons University maintenance department and was a member of Woodmen of the World and a veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. W.E. Owens of 1745 Birchwood St.; two sons, H.C. of Providence, La., and B.H. of White Sands, N.M.; his mother, Mrs. Adeline Gilchrest of Amarillo; three brothers, T.H. of Hilley [sic], Cecil of Lelia Lake, and Earl of Memphis; two sisters, Mrs. V.M. Woodall of Amarillo and Mrs. Pearl Warren of California; and 12 grandchildren. Mr. Gilchrest is survived by his wife, a daughter, two sons, his mother, three brothers, two sisters, and 12 grandchildren. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Virgil C. Sparks, pastor of the Assembly of God Church, officiating. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery with services under the direction of Spicer Funeral Home. Born Jan. 5, 1910, at Rochester, Tex., Mr. Gilchrest passed away Sept. 9 in Abilene. Pall bearers were Oris Gilbert, L.V. Shockley, Mack Graham, John Vallance, James Freeman and Bill Johnson. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruby Gilchrest of Abilene, two sons, Hubert Gilchrest of Louisiana, Bobby Gilchrest of White Sands, N.M.; one daughter, Onieta Gilchrest of Abilene; his mother, Mrs. Ada Gilchrest of Amarillo; three brothers, Theodore of Hedley, Earl of Memphis and Cecil of Lelia Lake; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Woodall of Amarillo, and Mrs. Ada Pearl Richerson of California.
