Funeral Services Held Wed. For J.E. Gilchrest Joseph Earl Gilchrest, 58, long-time Memphis resident, died Tuesday morning at his home, 621 Dover. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday from the Assembly of God Church with Rev. Virgil C. Sparks, pastor, officiating. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Spicer Funeral Home. Mr. Gilchrest was born April 29, 1903 at Leesville, Gonzales County. He had lived in Memphis for 35 years. He was married to Miss Velma Barry on Dec. 19, 1922 at Hedrick, Okla. One son and one daughter preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. J.E. Gilchrest of Memphis; one daughter, Mrs. Dub Summers of Fritch; two sons, Odis Lee and Earl Jr., both of Memphis; his mother, Mrs. Addie Gilchrest of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Cecil of Lelia Lake and Theodore of Hedley; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Woodall of Amarillo and Mrs. Ada Warren of Washington. Pall bearers were Heber Johnson, L.C. Johnson, Oris Gilbert, E.L. Spruill, Mack Graham and Thomas Clayton. Honorary pall bearers were John Vallance, Harvey Wells, P.E. Gibson, Hill Wells, L.G. Rasco, R.G. Patrick and J.C. Ledford.
