Mrs. Carolyn Hykel Janek, 87, of Galveston, formerly of West, died Monday at a Galveston hospital. The rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kotch Funeral Home Chapel in West. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West, the Rev. Ray Widacki was the celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery in West. Mrs. Janek was born December 31, 1899, in West. She had lived in Galveston since 1942. She was a St. Patrick's Catholic Church member and the KJZT Society in Galveston. She married Edmund Janek on November 25, 1919; he died in 1923. Survivors include a son, Eddie Janek of Galveston; a daughter, Nancy Jansky of Galveston; a brother, Joe Hykel of Galveston; a sister, Lillian Kudelka of Galveston; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The pallbearers were Eddie Janek, Jr., Dr. Kyle Janek, Craig Janek, Edmond Jansky, Kenny Kershaw, and L.A. Hykel.
