John W. Polansky, age 73, of West, passed away Sunday evening in a Dallas Rehabilitation Institute. Rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery in West. Mr. Polansky was born April 8, 1921 in Cottonwood and had lived in the Cottonwood-West area all of his life. He was a retired employee of West Flour Mill having worked there for 35 years. He was a farmer and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West and the K.J.T. Society No. 31. Mr. Polansky married Christine Kocurek, November 12, 1946 at Penelope. He is preceded in death by a brother, Frankie Polansky. Survivors include his wife, Christine Polansky of West; three daughters, Mary Ann Helona, Sharon Schroeder and Gladys Hand, all of Elm Mott; three brothers, George Polansky and Jimmy Polansky, both of West and Alphonse Polansky of San Antonio; four sisters, Mary Brem, Frances Polansky, Ruth Kocurek and Rosalie Kolar, all of West; and six grandchildren, Christopher Helona, Melanie Helona, Douglas Hand, Gregory Hand, James Schroeder and Daniel Schroeder. Active pallbearers were Christopher Helona, Kyle Fuller, Charlie Kolar, David Polansky, Frank Cinek and Mark Grmela. Kotch Funeral Home in West was in charge of arrangements.
