Bio
Alphonse Vincent Polansky, age 94, of San Antonio, formerly of West, passed away Sunday evening, December 18, 2022, at Heartis Senior Living in San Antonio. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. John Boiko as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in West, conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard. Alphonse was born January 4, 1928, in West, the son of Frank and Victoria (Snokhous) Polansky. He attended St. Mary's School in West before deciding to drop out and help on the family farm during the depression. On February 20, 1950, he was united in marriage to Catherine Pustejovsky in West. Alphonse proudly served his country aboard the USS Farenholt in the United States Navy during World War II. Upon his discharge, he used his service benefits to train as a carpenter and worked his entire career in commercial construction. In his early career, he worked in Waco, San Antonio, Dayton, OH, and Miami, FL. They then moved to San Antonio and settled there. He quickly advanced to foreman and then superintendent and grew to supervise major construction projects around the state of Texas in San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, and Fort Hood. He worked most of his career with and retired from Lyda, Inc. Some of the projects he proudly supervised were the Tower of the Americas in San Antonio, the original Hemisphere Arena in San Antonio, and the first upper deck on the Memorial Stadium in Austin. We always said he changed the skyline of San Antonio! Alphonse was a faithful member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in San Antonio. He was also a lifelong member of the SPJST Lodge #54, KJT Society #31, and VFW Post #4819. Alphonse enjoyed being outdoors, hiking, collecting rocks and arrowheads, collecting coins, and doing home improvement projects. He loved traveling all over the US and going to the Czech Republic, Germany, and Austria. He especially loved spending time with his family. Alphonse is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Brem, Frances Polansky, Ruth Kocurek, and Rosalie Kolar; and brothers, Frankie, John, George, and Jimmy Polansky. Survivors include his beloved wife of 72 years, Catherine "Kay" Polansky of San Antonio; three sons, Gary Polansky and wife Marcia of Albuquerque, NM, Dale Polansky and wife Jennifer of Duncanville, and Alan Polansky and wife Cathy of Creston, IL; his grandchildren, Caitlyn, Kara, Krista, Alton, and Sydney; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
