Bio

Catherine Recek, age 81, of West, passed away Friday afternoon, November 13, 1992 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery near West. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel by Msgr. George Doskocil. Mrs. Recek was born November 22, 1910 in Tours, the daughter of John C. and Mary Uptmore. She married John A. Recek. He died June 10, 1981. She was a horticulturist for Wolfe's Nursery in Fort Worth for 26 years before retiring in 1981. They lived in Fort Worth from 1954 to 1981, when she moved to West. She was a member of the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 54 in West. She was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. Survivors include one son, Johnny L. Recek of West; one daughter, Nona Jean Kapczynski of Houston; two brothers, Johnnie J. Uptmore of West and Virgil Uptmore of Waco; four sisters, Wilhelmina Black, Ernestine Kaluza and Marie (Ruby) Vrba, all of Waco, and Josephine Curry of Dallas; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Mike Recek, Vincent Kapczynski, Jr., Edwin Sefcik, Larry Uptmore, Virgil Uptmore, Jr. and Billy Gene Scott. Aderhold Funeral Home in West was in charge of arrangements.
