Mr. Johnny L. (Junior) Recek, 69, of West died Saturday, February 7, 2004, at a Waco hospital. He was born March 8, 1934, in West, son of John A. and Catherine Uptmore Recek, where he graduated from high school in 1953. He was a 14-year veteran of the Air Force, serving as a pharmacist. He worked in the pharmacy department of Waco Veterans Administration Hospital for 15 years, retiring in 1990. He had also worked for Behren's Wholesale Drug Company and as a service manager for Gordon Roundtree Motor Company of Waco. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption of West and Disabled American Veterans, co-founder of West Czech Folk Dancers and served as a Westfest associate director for many years. He repaired bicycles and worked with the West Police Department in giving them to children at Christmas. He married Barbara Kubacak July 24, 1954, in West. Survivors include: his wife; two sons, Mark Recek and Michael Recek, both of Pflugerville; one daughter, Melissa Sefcik and husband, Bubba; one sister, Nona Jean Kapczynski of Houston; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Rosary was recited at 10 a.m. Monday, February 9, 2004, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10:15 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Church with Rev. Isidore Rozycki as celebrant. Military graveside services were conducted by Dyess Air Force Base Honor Guard and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4819 of West at Mary's Cemetery in West. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Parish Center of West or building fund of St. Martin's Catholic Church of Tours.
