Bio

Mrs. August (Lillie) Zapalac, 81, of West died Thursday, August 12, at a local hospital. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Monsignor George Doskocil as celebrant. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Friday at Kotch Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Zapalac was born near West and lived in the area all her life. She was married to Henry Zapalac in 1921. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters Court No. 829. She was also a 50 year member of KJZT No. 11. Survivors include her husband; six daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Agnes) Prasifka and Mrs. Don (Ann) Speed, both of Waco, Mrs. Denvard (Willie Mae) Hack, Mrs. Roy (Margaret) Pierce and Jo Merenda, all of Houston, and Mrs. Brad (Rose) Brown of Dallas; a son, Henry Zapalac of Houston; three brothers, Steve Smajstrla of Abbott, Joe Smajstrla of Seymour and Floyd Smajstrla of Hillsboro; two sisters, Mrs. John (Betty) Zapalaz and Mary Pavlas, both of Abbott; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers: Joe Mynar, Louis Kazda, Brian Speed, Louis Pustejovsky, Denvard Hack, Thelton Pierce. Kotch Funeral Home, West, was in charge of arrangements.
