Steve J. Smajstrla, age 82, of Abbott, passed away Tuesday morning, March 6, 1990 at West Community Hospital. Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Kotch Funeral Home Chapel, West. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Abbott, with Rev. John Molnar as celebrant. Burial will follow in Fatima Cemetery in Abbott. Mr. Smajstrla was born September 4, 1907 in McLennan County and had lived in West-Abbott area all of his life. He was a retired farmer, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2305 of West and member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott. Survivors include a step-daughter, Mrs. Norman (Mary) Russell of Idaho Falls, Idaho; one brother, Floyd Smajstrla of Hillsboro; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Pavlas and Mrs. Bettie Zapalac, both of Abbott.
