August Zapalac, age 81, of West died Saturday, May 7, 1983 in a Waco hospital. Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Kotch Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, West, with Msgr. George Doskocil as celebrant. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Mr. Zapalac was born Feb. 2, 1902 near West and had lived in the West area all of his life. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the KJT Society 31 and the SPJST Lodge 54. Mr. Zapalac was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie who died August 12, 1982. Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Agnes) Prasifka and Mrs. Don (Ann) Speed of Waco, Mrs. Denvard (Willie Mae) Hack, Mrs. Roy (Margaret) Pierce, and Jo Merenda all of Houston, Mrs. Brad (Rose) Brown of Dallas; one son, Henry Zapalac of Houston; two brothers, John Zapalac of Abbott and Henry Zapalac of West; one sister, Mrs. Ed (Albina) Kuchar of Dallas; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
