Henry C. Zapalac, Sr., age 95, of West, passed away Friday afternoon in West Community Hospital. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. at Kotch Funeral Home Chapel, West. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, West; with Rev. Ed Karasek, as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery in West. Mr. Zapalac was born January 10, 1895 in West and had lived in the West area all of his life. He was a retired carpenter, a WW I veteran serving in the Army and a member of VFW Post #4819 of West; a member of the KJY Society #31 of West and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in West. He married Emilie Jezek November 8, 1920 in West, who preceded him in death February 18, 1986. Mr. Zapalac is survived by two sons, George H. Zapalac, Sr. of Austin and Henry C. Zapalac, Jr. of Bryan; two daughters, Lillian Zapalac of West and Georgia Landkamer of Mankato, Minnesota; sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Davied Zapalac, Mary Ann Zapalac, Dale Prouty, Randy Zavodny, Charles Zapalac and Richard Zapalac. Honorary Pallbearers were George Zapalac, Jr., Alexander Zapalac, John Landkamer, Mark Landkamer, Greg Landkamer, Pat Landkamer, Tim Landkamer, Anthony Landkamer and members of the VFW Post #4819 of West.
