Requiem Mass Held Tues. For Pete Sykora Pete Sykora died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1965, at 3:15 p.m. in Providence Hospital in West, at the age of 56 years. Rosary was recited Monday evening at 9 p.m. at Kotch Funeral Home. Solemn Requiem Mass was offered Tuesday, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church of Assumption in West. Rev. Robert J. Sykora of Garland, nephew of the deceased, was Celebrant; Rev. John T. Zagar of Oklahoma City, Deacon; Rev. Emilian Foltyn of Waco, Sub-Deacon; Rev. Michael Erwin of Dallas, Master of Ceremonies; and Rev. George Doskocil, Pastor of West Church of Assumption, delivered the sermon. Minor Ministers were Henry Peter of Dallas, Bernard Pustejovsky of Abbott, Tommy and Sammy Sykora of West. Pallbearers were J.W. Templeton of Waco, Raymond Chudej, Leo Gerik, H.J. Kozelski, F.E. Seith, and A.J. Weinberger, all of West. The local K.C. Choir was directed by Rev. W.A. Bockholt of Frelsburg, accompanied by Mrs. Dorothy Kucera of West. Among the more than 800 relatives and friends attending the services, out-of-town clergy included: Msgr. John T. Gulczynski of Dallas; Rev. Fathers W. Pechal of Abbott, Ralph Brennan of Bellmead, Raymond G. Brezna of Bryan, Sam Metzger and Gerald Scholl of Dallas, Frank Becker and Richard Weaver of Fort Worth, Frank S. Miller of Frenstat, Claude Smith of Hillsboro and Ed Geiser of Tours. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery in West. Mr. Sykora, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alois Sykora, was born in Bomarton, Texas, on Feb. 15, 1909, and spent his childhood in Mt. Calm. On Oct. 14, 1929, he married the former Bertha Pustejovsky, at which time they moved to West where he farmed until 1935. He owned and operated a grocery store from 1935 to 1943, when he joined the U.S. Navy. Upon receiving his discharge from the Navy in the latter part of 1945, Mr. Sykora was employed as shipping clerk at West Flour Mill, Inc., and continued in that capacity until his death. Mr. Sykora was a member of the West Knights of Columbus Council, KJT Lodge, Father Polcak Memorial Committee, St. Mary's Quarterback Club, and was an active member and usher of Assumption Parish in West. Survivors are his wife; four brothers, John Sykora and Joseph Sykora, both of Dallas, Henry Sykora of West, and Louis Sykora of Mt. Calm; six sisters, Mrs. Janie Petter, Mrs. Martha Gajdica and Mrs. Lillian Gerik, all of Dallas; Mrs. Rosie Vanek of Vernon, Mrs. Albina Vitek of La Grange, and Mrs. Louis Matus of Bellmead; and numerous nieces and nephews.
