DALLAS - Jannie Agnes Sykora Petter died suddenly April 25, 2001. A Vigil Service will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3030 Gus Thomasson Rd in Dallas. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, April 30, at St. Pius X, with a reception immediately following. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of Fatima in Abbott with the Rev. Henry Petter and brother priests presiding. A viewing will be 9a.m. - 4 p.m. Sunday at Sparkman/Crane Funeral Home. Jannie Agnes Sykora Petter was born Aug. 2, 1918, in Bomartin, Texas. She spent her early years working on her parent's Hill County farm, picking cotton and doing farming chores. She and her husband moved to Dallas in 1962, with their family. Jannie worked for Donovan Galvani as a seamstress. She mastered the art of quilting and produced many beautiful quilts for her family and others. Active in her parish, St. Pius X, she was a member of "Quilters and Crafters" and Over 55 Club. She was also a member of Catholic Daughters and the Czech Club Choir. She is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Jerry; parents, Alois and Mary Sykora; children, Jerry, Jimmy and Mary Jo Petter; son-in-law, John Sodek; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Kainen Sodek; sisters, Rosie Vanek, Albina Vitek, Lillian Gerik, Sr. Samuella Sykora; brothers, John Sykora, Henry Sykora and Louis Sykora. Jannie is survived by her children, Alois A. and Bernice Petter of Mesquite, Lillian Sodek of Waco, Sophie and Bob Edmondson of Mesquite, the Rev. Henry Petter of Plano, Helen Petter of Dallas, and Anthony and Theresa Petter of Grand Prairie; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Joe Sykora of Dallas; and sisters, Martha Gajdica of DeSoto and Louise Matus of Waco.
