Bio

Louis V. Sykora, age 89 of West, died Sunday morning, December 1, 1996 in West Community Hospital. Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. December 2, in Kotch Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Melvin Dornak. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. December 3 in St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption with the Rev. Henry Petter as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery, West. Mr. Sykora was born May 18, 1907 in McLennan County and had lived in Penelope for a number of years and had been a resident of West for the past nine years. He was a retired farmer and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, the Knights of Columbus Council #2305 of West, the Msgr. George Doskocil 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Council #2391 of West and the K.J.T. Society #31 of West. Mr. Sykora married Mathilda Knapek, October 16, 1928 in Penelope. She preceded him in death on June 21, 1987. He was also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Stacy Sykora, on November 2, 1993. Survivors include three sons, Alvin Sykora and wife Bernice of Waco, Harry Sykora and wife Ruby of Waco, and Edmund Sykora and wife Dorothy of West; two brothers, John and Joe Sykora, both of Dallas; three sisters, Louise Matus of Waco, Janie Petter and Martha Gajdica, both of Dallas; 19 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Michael Sykora, Kenneth Sykora, Patrick Sykora, Larry Sykora, Dennis Sykora, Ronnie Sykora, Brian Sykora and David Sykora. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Knights of Columbus Council #2305 of West and the Msgr. George Doskocil 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Council #2391, also of West.
