Mrs. Nemecek, Early Settler, Dies Sunday Mrs. Ernest "Frances" Nemecek died Sunday night in a Waco hospital following a long illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 26 from her home at 412 North Reagan at 9 a.m. and from the Church of Assumption at 9:30 a.m. Rt. Rev. Msgr. I.J. Valenta officiated. The body lay instate at her home from 5:00 p.m. Monday and rosary was recited at her home at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Aderhold Funeral Home was in charge. Mrs. Nemecek was 80 years old and would have been 81 on Dec. 28. She broke her hip some three years ago and just as it healed she rebroke it, and has been bed-ridden since that time. She was born in Czechoslovakia on December 23, 1877, Frances was the daughter of Frank and Mary Karlik. She came to this country with her parents and seven brothers when she was two years old. The Karliks were one of the first families to settle in this section on a farm about six miles west of town, where Mrs. Nemecek's only surviving brother, Cyrill Karlik still resides. In order to go to church they rode horseback to Tours as there was no church in West. Mrs. Nemecek lived here all but the first two years of her life, almost 79 years. She was a charter member of the local court of the Catholic Daughters of America. She belonged to the Altar and Rosary Societies, and was an honorary member of the KJZT. Her husband, Ernest, one of the founders of Nemecek Brothers Market, preceded her in death three and one-half years ago. Surviving are three sons and three daughters, John , Raymond and Edward Nemecek, Mrs. Marie Jerabek, Mrs. Agnes Kubala and Mrs. Christine Hruska, all of West; ten grandchildren, Mrs. Clara Carter, Misses Evelyn and Dorothy Jerabek, Miss Mary Cecile Nemecek, Misses Margaret and Jeanette Hruska, Sandra and Cynthia Nemecek, Walter Kubala and Tim Nemecek; three great-grandchildren, Susan, Patti and Michael Carter; one brother, Cyrill Karlik and a brother-in-law, A.R. Nemecek, all of West. Pallbearers were her nephews, J.C. Karlik, Louis Karlik, Albin Karlik, Joe R. Mazanec, Anton G. Mazanec and Eddie Mazanec.
