Helen Ruth Marek, age 99, of West, passed away early Sunday afternoon, April 3, 2011 at West Rest Haven. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home by Rev. Melvin Dornak, followed by a visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Melvin Dornak as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Mrs. Marek was born on November 15, 1911 in Wilbarger, the last surviving child of Anton and Annie (Adams) Koval. She attended the Alligator Creek School. Helen was united in marriage to Adolph F. Marek and he preceded her in death on January 13, 1956. She then married Alfons Adolf Marek on June 20, 1961 in Abbott. He preceded her in death on March 7, 1993. Helen was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, canning pickles, and most of all caring for her dog, Pepper until she became a resident of West Rest Haven. She was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption and a member of the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #54 in West. Helen is also preceded in death by a daughter, Willie Mae Dornak; a brother, Tony E. Koval; eight sisters, Millie Bailey, Mary Hromadka, Annie Marek, Rosie Husak, Sophie Ferguson, Frances Barton, Lillie Koval and Albina Middlebrook; and a son-in-law, Leo Dornak. Survivors include a son, Adolph Frank Marek and wife Mary of Austin; a daughter-in-law, Bessie Dornak of Halletsville; six grandchildren, Mellissa Marie Tucker and husband Tony, Elaine Roth and husband Mark, Rev. Melvin Dornak, Karen Hafner and husband Mark, John Dornak and Michelle Renee Marek Manskey; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Edwin Marek, Freddie Kaluza, Johnny Barton, Raymond Joe Sulak, Michael Matus, and Jerry Swank. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Rest Haven Memorial Fund.
