Edward J. Marek, age 81 of West, passed away Saturday afternoon, Oct. 30, 1999 in Hillcrest Medical Center at West. Rosary was recited 8 p.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites followed in St. Mary's Cemetery in West, conducted by V.F.W. Post #4819 of West. Mr. Marek was born Sept. 19, 1918 near West and had lived in the West area all of his life. He was a retired farmer, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, Knights of Columbus Council #2305, K.J.T. Society #31, S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #6, a veteran of WWII, serving in the Navy, a member of V.F.W. Post #4819, American Legion of West and the USS Tennessee Association. Mr. Marek married Virginia Barak, Oct. 14, 1946 in West. He was preceded in death by six sons, William, Larry, Joseph, Edward D., Frankie and John Marek. Survivors include his wife, Virginia, of West; three daughters, Mrs. Clint (Mary Ann) Stone of Waco, Mrs. Richard (Margaret) Schroeder of Tours and Theresa Marek of Waco; two brothers, John T. Marek of Ennis and Cy Marek of Dallas; four sisters, Mrs. Cyril (Christine) Svrcek of West, Sophie Young of Waco, Mrs. Raymond (Lois) Kallus of West and Mrs. Raymond (Mary) Pavlovsky of Taylor and one granddaughter, Krystal Schroeder of Tours. Active pallbearers were Norman Payne, Danny Mynar, George Mynar, John Marek, Jr., Gary Young and David Pavlovsky. Honorary pallbearers were the members of V.F.W. Post #4819 of West.
