Bio
Joseph R. Marek, age 23, of Austin, formerly of West, died Friday, Nov. 12, at an Austin hospital. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Msgr. George Doskocil officiating. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Kotch Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Marek was born in Hill County. He had lived in Hill and McLennan Counties most of his life. He attended Victoria College in Gonzales from 1979 through 1980. He was a student at the University of Texas and was majoring in educational psychology. Mr. Marek received a certificate in the Golden Key Honor Society in March. He was a member of the KJT Society of West and the SPJST Lodge 6 of Cottonwood. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Marek of West; a brother, Johnny Marek of West; three sisters, Mrs. Clint (Mary Ann) Stone of San Angelo, Mrs. Richard (Margaret) Schroeder of West and Miss Theresa Marek of West; and his grandmother, Mrs. Joe R. (Mary) Marek of West. Pallbearers were Gary Young, Kevin Marek, Ed Mikuda, Carl Pavlovsky, Burl Shelton and Joe Frank Mynar.
