Bio
John Lee Marek, 24, of West died Wednesday at his residence after a long illness. Mass of Christian burial was at 10 a.m. Friday, May 10, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West, Monsignor George Doskocil officiated. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Kotch Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Marek was born September 5, 1960, near West. He lived in the West area all of his life. He graduated from West High School in 1979 and attended the J.C. campus of Victoria College at Gonzales for two years. He also attended the University of Texas for two years and attended San Jose State University in California for one year. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He also was a member of the KJT Society No. 31 in West and the SPJST Lodge No. 6 in Cottonwood. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Marek of West; three sisters, Mrs. Clint (Mary Ann) Stone of San Angelo, Mrs. Richard (Margaret) Schroeder and Theresa Marek, both of West; and a grandmother, Mrs. Joe R. Marek of West. Pallbearers were David Polansky, Herbert Brem, Burl Shelton, Jimmy Pavlovsky, Joe Frank Mynar and Kevin Marek.
