Joseph R. Marek, 71, of West died at 10:55 a.m. last Thursday in a Waco hospital after an illness of two years. Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in West. Msgr. I. J. Valenta and Rev. James Quilter of West officiated with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, West. Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. last Friday in Kotch Funeral Chapel of West. Mr. Marek was born in West and had lived in this area all of his life. He was a retired farmer and a member of St. Mary's Church of the Assumption, the KJT Lodge and Catholic Workmen. He married the former Miss Marie Makovy on Nov. 24, 1914. They would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary this year. Survivors are his wife; three sons, Edward Marek of West, Johnny Marek of Waco, and Cyril Marek of Dallas; four daughters, Mrs. Cyril Svrcek and Mrs. Joe Sykora, both of West, Mrs. B.W. Young of Waco, and Mrs. Raymond Pavlovsky of Mart; two sisters, Mrs. Joe Mynar and Mrs. John Parma, both of West; one brother, John Marek of West; 23 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.
