Overton, Nebr. ====================== The Lawrence Locomotive (Lawrence, NE), Thursday, October 14, 1965; pg. 1 John Pavelka Obituary A son of pioneers of this community passed away, when death claimed John Pavelka, suddenly following a heart attack on October 7, 1965. He was born in a prairie dug-out home three miles south of Spring Ranch, Nebraska, to Severin and Marie Pavelka on September 20, 1887. Enduring the hardships of pioneer life, he received his early education at Prairie Rose School. On April 1, 1913 he was married to Anna Ourada of Overton, Nebraska. To this union were born three children, a son, Joseph and two daughters, Alyce arid Lillian. Many pleasant memories surround the demise of Mr. Pavelka, who was a prominent farmer in the Spring Ranch vicinty (sic) for over 50 years on the same farm. Mr. Pavelka. of Czechoslovakian descent, was an ardent music lover and was often seen at small neighborhood gatherings entertaining with his violin. He became a member of Catholic Workmen Lodge of Deweese at 18 years of age. He has been an active members (sic) for 60 year (sic). Mourning his sudden death are his beloved wife Anna, his son Joseph Pavelka of Glenvil, two daughter (sic), Mrs. Victor A. Hubl (Alyce) of Stockton, Calif., and Mrs. Howard Brockman (Lillian) of Lawrence, and 17 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving him are two brothers, Joseph Pavelka Sr. of Lawrence, William Pavelka of Glenvil, and one sister, Frances Ourada of Overton, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Frank and Anton Pavelka and his sister Mrs. Thomas (Mary) Mazour. Funeral services were conducted by Father Naughton with Father Sladky in the Sanctuary, at Sacred Heart Church, Lawrence, Nebraska, on Monday, October 11, 1965 at 10 a.m., and he was laid to rest in St. Martin's rural Catholic Cemetery. He has been almost a life long member of St Martin's Parish and its welfare was always dear to his heart. It was his request to be buried there. Father Lieblinger assisted by Father Naughton and Father Sladky, conducted the burial services.Fellow members of the Catholic Workmen Lodge formed an honor guard at the funeral of their lodge brother. Pall bearers were nephews, Albert Ourada, George Ourada, Albert Pavelka, Ernest Pavelka, Alvin Pavelka, and Ervin Mazour. Servers at the Mass were grandsons Duane Brockman and Kenneth Pavelka and friends Dale Buescher, Gene Mazour, and John Dolnicek. Friends and relatives from out-of-town came from Lincoln, David City, Kearney, Elm Creek, Lexington, Omaha, Overton, Sargent, Grand Island, Hastings, Wood River, Blue Hill and Stockton, California.
