John J. Kavanagh , in the church (sic) of the Immaculate Conception. The witnesses were Mr. George Herbeck (sic), cousin of the groom and Miss Mary Vrana, cousin of the bride, both of Dewese (sic). After the marriage ceremony, Father Kavanagh celebrated the nuptial mass at which the married couple and their witnesses received Holy Communion. Nov. 12,1970 - Page 4 John Karmazin Obituary-- Funeral services for John Karmazin were held at Sacred Heart Church, Crete Nebr. at ten o'clock Monday, Nov 2. Rev. Antony Katz officiated. Burial was made in the Catholic Deweese Cemetery. Pallbearers were his nephews Tom Svoboda, Edward Skalka, Leo Skalka, Nick Gruntorad, Adrian Gruntorad and Edward Pavelka. John Karmazin, son of Frank and Frances (Mazour) Karmazin, was born May 12, 1900 at Deweese and passed away Friday, Oct 30, 1970 at the age of 70 years, 5 months and 18 days after a year and a half illness. He was united in marriage to Mary Gruntorad on April 15, 1925 at Elm Creek. They lived their married live on a farm near Deweese until they retired at Crete in 1955. Mr. Karmazin was a devoted and active member of the Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Mary; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Drudick (sic), seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, five sisters, Mrs. Stella Svoboda, Mrs. Julia Skalka, Mrs. Mary Skalka of Deweese, Mrs. Rose Skalka of Hastings, Mrs. Iva Bauer of Lincoln. He was preceded in death by two sons, two brothers and his parents. Relatives and friends attending the services came from Overton, Elm Creek, Grand Island, Hastings, Deweese, Lawrence, Edgar, Nelson, Beaver Crossing, Lincoln, Crete, Prague, Linwood, Omaha and Ordway, Colo.
