The Edgar Sun (Edgar, NE), Friday, November 5, 1915; pg. 2 SVOBODA - KARMAZINE (sic) WEDDING A pretty wedding occured (sic) Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock, when Stella, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Karmazine (sic) was united in marriage to Joe F.M. Svoboda. The ceremony was performed in the Assumption Blessed Virgin Mary church (sic), Rev. Victor Mlynek officiating. It was attended by members of the families and a large concourse of people. After the ceremony a wedding dinner was served at the home of the bride, followed by a wedding dance. The bride was gowned in white tafeta (sic) silk and the groom wore the conventiona (sic) black. Henry Herbeck (sic) was best man and Julia Karmazine (sic), sister of the bride, and Leda Karmazine (sic), cousin of the bride, were maids of honor. They were gowned in blue silk covered with shadow lace. The groomsmen were Anton Skalka and Joe Drudik. The bride spent her girl hood days in this vicinity. The groom is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Svoboda, a prosperous farmer, and has lived near Deweese all his life. After a month's trip to Detroit, Mich., and other points of interest, Mr. and Mrs. Joe F.M. Svoboda will be at home Dec. 1st, on a farm three and one-half miles southeast of Deweese, where every things is in readiness for a happy prosperous life. ========================= The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, June 16, 1983; pg. 7 Stella Svoboda, 88, of Deweese passed away on June 7, 1983, at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior. Rosary was held Thursday, June 9, at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Deweese. Mass of the Resurrection was held Friday, June 10, at Our Lady of Assumption Church, with the Rev. Edwin L. Stander officiating. Interment was in the Assumption Cemetery. Lector was Donald Pohlmeier. Song leaders were Donald and Leona Suedmeier and organist was Dennis Washburn. Servers were Kevin, Darrel and Gary Pohlmeier. Pallbearers were Ron Nejezchelb, Joe Svoboda, Robert Svoboda, Ron Svoboda, Clark Williams and Mike Furman. Mrs. Svoboda was preceded in death by her husband, Joe F.M.; parents, Frank and Frantiska Karmazin; brother, John Karmazin; and sister Julia Skalka. She was born in Nuckolls County and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Lawrence. October 29, 1915, she was married and lived on a farm between Deweese and Lawrence until 1949 when they moved to the Deweese community. For the past three years, she lived at the Good Samaritan Center in Nelson. Mrs. Svoboda was a member of Our Lady of Assumption Church and Altar Society in Deweese. Survivors are her two sons, Irvin and Tony, both of Deweese; a daughter, Julia Svoboda of Hastings; three sisters, Mary Skalka of Deweese, Rose Skalka of Hastings and Eva Bauers of Lincoln; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. McLaughlin Funeral Home of Clay Center was in charge of the arrangements.
